Nice post Glen!
Haha. Stop giving away my niches π
Cheers Tung!
Funny, you’re the one who just outed yourself in the whole post. Every veteran webmaster facepalms as you think this is something new and innovative. But way to send a bunch of clueless noobs who will attack the obvious money keywords with spun content and fiverr links.
You’re so cool dude! Tell me more…
And your helpful sharing posts are where?…
Awesome idea – thanks1
Hey Glen Dint know you love EPL.
Anyways…
Just a quick one how can you inter-great an “SEO niche” with events which are completely different?
Geordie for life!
(Don’t realy watch football anymore since leaving England though, to be honest with you).
You could research and write about people who have likely had success with this in 2015 π
When are you going to have your niche marketing course back on the market?
Likely for one week in March, bro π
HI Glen,
You don’t stop amazing me about the lots of value you provide to your readers. You’re awesome.
I’ve got a quick IM related question:
I know looking for quick instant riches online is almost a scam. But I’ve got this idea of using FB ads to promote affiliates-related blog posts. This is because I need to make some quick money before the year runs out. Do you see this idea or any other similar idea feasible.
Thanks man. You rock.
If you’re expecting to make the quick money int he next 6 days, I would be a little skeptical about your potential.
I never personally find success when money is my only focus.
If it’s ethical then I don’t see why you don’t do it. Then again, you have to be careful what you’re promoting. If you don’t have an established Facebook account and know what you’re doing, you may run into some issues with your ads being disapproved.
Hi Glenn
Brilliant as always,
I believe Google Trends score is calculated by looking at the rate of current volumes against the volumes in the previous year.
In your example it could be that November is lower in Trends because there were people searching ahead for ‘best album 2015’ in November 2014. Just like we might (i wouldn’t ;)) search for ‘SEO in 2016’ now for a look ahead. Therefore Trends will show a lower score for later months of the year as they are basing it on the rate of difference between that month and the same month the previous year.
Hope that helps
Keir
HI Glen,
Although I tweeted your page I didn’t have access to the “hidden” part of your blog
same here
Was it just Twitter you tried, Shane? Trying to see if there’s an issue.
Hmm,
Not totally sure what to do here Gilles. If I copy and paste it to your email it’s going to look a little shit because I have an image in there also.
If I hear any other reports I’ll put together a little page and send you the link. Sorry for the inconvenience!
If the image is not very important, send it to me by email. I won’t mind if doesn’t look that great!
Thanks
It didn’t unlock for me either and I tried LinkedIn
Weird. I updated the plugin and haven’t had any reports of it not working since…
I shared it on LinkedIn but don’t have access to the hidden part either… Glen, could you email it to me? Would love to read about the fourth angle!
Hello Glen.
What do I say to you.
I have been trying to make my way online through blogging since 2011.
I have been keeping up with your updates since then.
I was able to create over a 100 post from your niche ideas.
You’re a darling.
Thanks men.
Cheers Godlove!
Have a great holiday season π
I told taking that Google trends tactic from your playbook lead to me working with the 2012 Barack Obama presidential campaign, playa! The case study’s right on my: https://youtu.be/DiElyoHFIlI You know you thorough, my brother! Happy Holidays to you and yours, Glen! Stay huntin’!!!
You’re epic as always, Neal!
Happy holidays dude. Say hello to all the family for me π
The good thing is you already know how a keyword will preform before even start out
Epic post as usual.
Great point.
Cheers Hassan!
Nice Post!

Great stuff, Glen. I’ll be using this as a core part of my strategy with a new authority site I’m in the process of starting.
Cheers and happy new year,
Eric
Happy New Year to you too, Eric!
Best of luck with the new venture π
Hi Glen,
Great as always!
People that making amazon affiliate review sites could use keywords like “niche + 2015 + reviews”.
Thanks!
Great addition. Don’t know how I didn’t think of that one…thank god for comments (and people like you).
Have a great holiday season bro π
Awesome Article glenn! Gonne use a lot of those ideas.
Dank je wel, Mike!
I was just thinking about this, on my 1-page site I added once next to keyword ”2016” and it’ ranking 1st spot for keyword 2016 because no competition π
This can be good for amazon affiliates, let’s say best toasters 2016, I doubt there will be much competition.
Another mention for the Amazon affiliate route. Could give me something else to work on π
Hey Glen,
great Tips as always! I’m all into Amazon FBA right now, would love an article from you how to push an FBA business or the matching brand website.
Thanks for this great series!
Cheers
Philip
Already covered it in Niche #7 Philip. Enter your email anywhere on the site and you’ll get instant access to it π
Thanks so much for the kind words!
Excellent as always, Glen. Glad you’re back.
I’ve been using this same search technique for years. Can’t believe I missed such a brilliant idea right under my nose for so long. It’s how I found all my free WordPress themes for the longest time. “Awesome WordPress themes free 2015.” Oy perkele.
Now to chew on ways to use this for the latest venture. We’ve got a kickstarter in the works…
And thanks for the reminder of the Inc private forums. Need to get back!
Thanks so much, Brian.
It’s great to be writing again!
Haha I read this post and didn’t have a comment to share. Then I went to arguably one of the top 25 sites for traffic in the world and the first thing that popped up was “best facials of 2015” …usually I keep my comments on the Internet PG 13, but this was just to ironic not to share. Haha no this is not spam haha and I won’t link to the site.
LOL!
Now, think about this potential in the promo codes niche.
Each year it’s a massive reset π
Keep it to yourself π
Haha.
Tons of opportunities Yann!
Glen, this is definitely my favorite. Although we have successfully launched a box business for the family! lanyway, I am intrigued by leveraging the fourth angle. I totally get scraping or tapping into APi ‘s to get the social mentions which could be good or bad. However creating a sentiment bar based on the mentions would be a bit more complex to do programmatically and a bear of a task to do manually. I have some ideas to simply representing sentiment and I was wondering if I could get your thoughts on that, either here or via email. π
Preferably here if you can, Myra.
Please keep in mind that I am not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination. π
Hey Glen,
The locked content was EXACTLY what I was thinking. Great minds think alike, eh? Ha!
Anyway, I read a case study on how to do this exact analysis. I’ll let you know how it goes!
Regards,
Jerret
Wow…super cool!
Please do Jerret, would love to hear how it goes π
Wow amazing blueprint for begin 2016 in higher levels. Thank you Glenn for this open eyes work! .So much value delivered here. Masterpiece of article.
Cheers Raildo,
Much appreciated dude π
Hi Glen,
I clicked to “unlock”, nothing happened. Please, can you send me a link to my e-mail.
Thank you.
Have a GREAT HOLIDAY!!!! MY BESTEST WISHES TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!!
Sincerely,
Renee
Hey Glenn,
Awesome info. Can easily be deployed a million ways.
What are your thoughts about using the same post/url each year and just changing the year in the title/content and updating the list? I suggest this for the following reasons:
1. Minimize duplicate content
2. Much faster – simply update lists each year
3. Existing posts have authority so potentially rank faster by updating instead of starting from scratch.
4. One could place old content below or in a downloadable PDF for people looking for previous years lists.
Obviously you’d want to keep the year out of the url if taking this approach.
I’d like to hear your thoughts on this approach. Once one has 100 of these posts done, updating them each year wouldn’t take long.
Not Glenn, but I’ve had a lot of success with exactly that strategy. I update one of my most popular content pieces twice a year and am currently expanding it to cover more niches. My URL structure looks like site.com/great-content which stays the same always. As I make updates, I offload older versions to site.com/great-content/2014, site.com/great-content/2013 etc.
I update the primary page title, meta description and on page references (marked up with Schema), which Google picks up on. So instead of my new content launching on no authority, it goes live on a page with more than 5,000 links, and thousands of tweets, likes, etc. Much easier than launching from scratch and it gives a better chance of outranking much larger sites.
Thanks YM. Makes sense to me. One could conceivably earn a very good living with a few hundred established posts that only require updates once or twice per year.
I really appreciate the details you set out, especially how you handle “expired” content. Thanks again.
Someone must already be using this. I was surprised the other day when searching on line for info on camcorders to find that best camcorders 2016 came up in the google suggestion box. And I followed the link. After all, who DOESN’T want to check out the latest offerings in a chosen area? Must try this for my own areas. Thanks.
Glenn,
When I type in some of the industries I’m interested in.. I can see the keywords already showing some results for 2016? Maybe it’s because of predictions .. like 2016 fitness trends. Seems like that space already has quite a few authoritative results.
Hey,this is amazing,I love the way you structure this post, it really give me more insight on what to write next year to attract more traffic and make more money. This idea worth thousands of dollar. Thanks for sharing.
Hello Glen,
Very interesting post. Where can you get content for 2016 posts for gadgets which may not be produced yet? I see some blogs are using the right article titles but are pitching products from 2015 and before. What would be the strategy for getting content? Would you guage potential traffic based on last year’s traffic?
Awesome Post !
very well explained, google trends really helps a lot in finding keywords. i really spend so much time on google trends to find awesome keywords
Thanks for sharing with us
Regards
Rahim
You’re very welcome, Rahim.
Please let me know how you get on.
Glen – yet another amazing article! Thank You π
I spent the last few days thinking of an article that was going to use “2016” in its title and by pure magic you sent me this email today. How timely!
Awesome content and I will certainly do something important with all of this advice.
Happy Holidays!
– Alex
Happy holidays, Alex!
Best of luck with your ventures going forward π
Just bought bestaffiliateoffers2016.com and bestaffiliateoffers2017.com
Let me know if anyone is interested in buying one π
Thanks for the great post Glen.
Happy New Year everyone π

An opportunist. I approve! π
Cheers Dado
Glen – Long-time reader… 2nd time commenter. Got a lot of ideas from reading this, one that I’m particularly excited about with a domain I’ve had laying around for about 2 years now.
My question is in regards to Backlinksxxx and whether we should use the tactics in there to help give the pages a boost? Is blxxx still relevant?
Cheers!
Well done Glen on self-demonstrating the point about using the YEAR in a headline.
i.e. “How Four-Numbers Can Send You Millions of Visitors from Google in 2016”
That’s about as SEO rich as it can get! I’m altering my next post to use this terrific tactic
Haha, someone caught me π
Best of luck to you John. I have a few more coming as well.
This is great information! I have been doing a lot of thinking about writing 2016-based content for a while now, but haven’t really started…yet. I’m going to work on that now.
By the way, the social share content locker…is that something custom, or is that a tool anyone can use? I’d like to give that a try on some of my sites.
It’s a plugin called ‘Social Locker’ available on code canyon.
Apparently it’s not working too well at the moment though so I need to look into that.
Thanks for the comment, Wess!
Awesome post as usual Glen!
Thank you!
You did say that we could ask you about just about anything, and I have a question not necessarily about this article.
Could you talk a little about how you plan your year? It’s clear from what you’ve written you have a number of different projects, several irons in the fire, how do you keep track of it all and how do you decide where to put your time and energy?
Obviously I’m not looking for you to give anything away, but would love some insight into how you manage what sounds like a fairly extensive portfolio.
More about the mindset, the thinking behind how you manage it, it would be really great.
If that’s too much to ask, or seems more like a post onto itself, I certainly understand.
Either way, thanks again man!
Rich,
Thank you for the question.
These days I try to think of what I do on a daily basis rather than the year as a whole. I took on a huge project a couple of weeks ago that is likely going to take me the best part of 6 months to complete. But I didn’t set a deadline for it, I simply set an idea of what I want to achieve towards that project each day.
I personally get a little overwhelmed if I start thinking too far out into the future, rather than just on what I need to achieve each day.
I only have two websites I care greatly about at the moment after selling a few and letting a few die or be managed by other people.
We don’t know how the year is going to turn out, so just focus on today π
Thank you Glen for a great post and (most important) ideas to work on. I plan to build an authority site for this coming year. I will try to put in action the idea and hopefully it’s gonna work π
Happy holidays!
Best of luck to you Wayan.
Happy Holidays back at ya!
Not a new idea, but amazing article nonetheless!
Cheers Sam!
Excellent article. I just started my new website on donating used cars for charity. Gonna implement what I have read on your site. You are an inspiration. – Kris
Thanks so much Kris,
Sounds like a great concept!
Hi,
Thanks for this post. Interesting strategy. I was just writing a “best (thingie) of 2015” post and feeling like I was wasting my time, because it’s already too late.
If you write a post now for “best (thingie) 2016” when it’s not 2016 yet, then what would you write about? Even if you know some thingies to be released in 2016, they get released throughout the year. So do you just start out with a sparse post and go on about what to look for in the year ahead and keep adding to the post?
It may be too late for targeted search traffic, but definitely not too late if you’re going to push it to your audience or social media.
Though there are only a few days left in the year so I would act fast if you aren’t very close to getting it out there.
Get the pages up and worry about the content when it’s 2016 if you don’t know what to put yet π
and this strategy is even better if you start adding the new year to your posts in Oct-Nov so that you end up dominating page one with all of your sites once the new year starts.
At least I got one in before the end of 2015 π
Thanks for the comment, Shawna!
Dear Glen
You know you are an inspiration to me! This is a great article. I learnt something and i cant wait. I have already finished to write January articles so i have to follow your guidance.
I have read negative article about you being scam as you said, lol , but i dont look into that. What i want is the creativeness you have. You are like a mentor to me.
Thats why i have included you to my 5 young entrepreneurs on my blog to show my readers who inspired me to become an online entrepreneur.
Will keep on listening to what you say as most of fellow bloggers will. I like this post very much and is well written. Thanks a lot and enjoy your festive season.
Appreciate the support and the kind words, Edmond!
I hope you enjoy yours too and best of luck with your business ventures going forward.
You’re emails are one of the few I ALWAYS read and get value from. Keep them coming.
Quick question. How do I get access to the hidden section? I shared on LinkedIn using the share buttons, but still no access. I can honestly say I’ve never ever seen one of those gated content plugins work.
Not sure why it’s not working, Stephen.
I see an update is available so I’m going to try and sort that out now.
I have already started applying 2016 in articles.. now with reading your article.. i will go into turbo mode
Cheers glen
Jeff
Kill it buddy!
An Excellent Article before 2016. All the information provided in the article are not only effective but current also ( not that old school concepts Fuh). I would love to share this article with my readers. If you permit Glen, I’ll post the link on my website.
Happy Xmas and New Years to All!
Feel free to do so, Soumen.
Thanks!
Hi Glen,
Just a wow for this valuable information and giving it for free.
Thanks,
Subha Sadiq
You’re welcome Subha!
“the core concept is entirely mine, so Iβm 99.99% certain you wonβt have or wonβt be hearing this from anywhere else”
Don’t want to ‘hate’ but people have been doing the above for years…nothing new here.
Including the guy whose examples in this post are from 2010 π
I meant I haven’t heard about anyone talking to do this for 2016. I guess you had to read the last niche update to get it π
I can vouch that this work and I do this every year with a few of my sites.
Here’s a tip, don’t include the year (ex: 2016) in the URL of the post but just the Title.
This way you can change the year on the Post Title and rank again for the next year.
Of course you’ll need to update the content a little be but that’s really minimun work.
Cheers!
Nice tip Dencha!
Glen as you may recall I work as commercial energy affiliate here in the UK.
Your original post for the 3 month old site was a major inspiration for me and I’ve already released a mini site relating to a huge utility industry deregulation happing in 2017. I am already getting sign ups to my email newsletter which is designed to attract 1.affiliates 2. Buyers – I have absolutely no doubt that this mini site will bring me a significant passive income and I promise to keep you posted as this may be something that could benefit your community.
All the very best for a great Xmas and successful new year – p.s. I hope you find your Ferrari soon !
This is the first comment about the Ferrari!
Absolute dream car. Sadly starts at around $1m here in Asia. One day π
And of course, have a great Xmas and New Year!
Awesome post, one way I use this “hack” is to start writing about things that are happening before they actually do. One example I can give away is the term “Bitcoin price 2016”, which I started to write about 2 month ago, and quickly got to the first page on Google.
Smart idea, Ofir!
Hey Glen,
Same as many commenters here, I’ve been reading a long time, but I think this is one of my favorites. Thanks!
I like creating evergreen content, so the idea of re-writing all these posts every year doesn’t sound appealing. I was wondering if there’s an easier way.
… So if I have mysite.com/keyword-2016 and it does well, what do you suggest for the following year? Re-write the post and 301 it to the 2017 version?
Or would there be a simpler way where you could just update the post annually and change the year in the post and title/desc tags?
Thanks again.
Chris
Chris, see my tip a few comments up.
You’re very welcome, Chris!
You don’t necessarily need 2016 in the URL. You could just make sure other on-site factors, such as your headline, take care of that.
Otherwise yes, I would go the 301 route.
Thanks for the comment π
So simple. So effective!
Yet, so many ignore the opportunities, leaving money on the table. Loads of it.
Glad you like it, Trond!
Hey Glen, I am just curious the question I would like to ask obviously varies from niche to niche but here goes it
ON average what would you consider to much competition for a search term using this strategy? Also what are your takes on branding?
Hi Glen,
This is first time.I read your post, looks like I.missed a lot all these years π
Superb idea!
Thanks.
You’re here now, Ravi. That’s all that counts!
This happens to be a great idea, crazy thing is it’s super simple and straight forward. It amazes me how often we overlook the simple aspects of marketing, and even blogging as a whole. Google as a whole has found a way to make something so simple and honest, become so tangled now-a-day.
Anyhow; Now that I’m done rambling thanks again for a great post. Really is a joy watching your journey from a far, and wishing you all the success in 2016!
Appreciate the kind words Terrel and love your positivity.
Where to begin?
Glen, you’re the only person I truly care to follow online! (We’ve emailed back and forth several times btw)
I think every single venture online that I started was inspired by you. I’ve been following for a while but I started to really apply what you share when you gave the “viral” idea.
I was looking back on my Adsense/Taboola accounts from May 2014 to see how I made hundreds of dollars almost instantly since launching it and peaking over 250K in traffic in just a few weeks. Later selling it for parts (who would think people would want to buy the content for thousands?). Man if I knew the stuff that I do today, where would I have been with that project alone.
I launched the digital marketing to a specific niche idea that you shared. I also launched the “social media guru” idea.
Even though I set it in April 2015 then stopped to work on other things. I’ve relaunched it a couple weeks ago and produced value content with a touch of viral-style articles. I already have thousands in traffic and mailing list growing. My aim is to grow it organically with no money spent on ads (this is a test for me). I’ve surprising already have articles starting to rank for certain keywords that are already bringing me organic traffic from google (and yahoo!.. really? lol). I wasn’t expecting to make money from traffic for another few months but it’s already in the double digits. This is going to be my major project for 2016 as the social media platform is taking off and there is literally 1 “guru” in this platform (who is an absolutely joke). Low competition, high traffic plus my extensive knowledge of the platform = $$$.
My biggest success so far from what you’ve taught is from a network of Facebook pages. This came as a result of you mentioning in one of your articles how to get page likes for little to nothing (can’t remember which article). I make thousands of dollars from developing partnerships with just a couple clients. This amounts to 5 figures a year. This is literally the easiest money I’ve ever made. 5 figures a year for literally 15 minutes of work a month. I’m developing these pages to create websites that will be ready next month. I expect to 3-5 fold my revenue from doing this.
All this to say thank you! And you’re far from a scam as the article claims. You haven’t taking any money from me. All you’ve done is offer A LOT of inspiration, tools and help to succeed!
Anthony
Dude. You are so epic. Thanks so much for sharing this!
You’re the epic one! Hope we can meet some day! What if we organised a yearly retreat where we all meet in some place in the world? Now that would be epic..
Btw, since I last posted this, I am now towards the end of finalizing a pretty big partnership with a very popular company that offers rides.. (not to say the name but it consists of 4 letters, starts with a “U” and ends with a “ber”)!
Super cool man. That’s insane.
I’m not really one for IM meetups, been to too many that were pretty weird, but you never know π
Can’t wait to hear more about your progress!
Hi Anthony!
Could you pls tell me what side of partnership should I look for with “U.er”?
In a few month it’ll appear in my country..
I rarely comment but thought I’d give something away to your readers.. Something I’ve just thought of right now just to give a twist to this idea. Add a location to the 2016 keywords and you will most likely hit local gold. Just my gut feel. π (I don’t know much about SEO other than from Glen).
I do this all the time. Searching, I mean.
E.g. Best phones Philippines 2016
What do you think, Glen? π
date + location in a yt video worked pretty well to dominate for certain search queries. The effect was pretty limited but very strong.
Awesome article mate. Going to give it a try in 2016 π
Best of luck Doulci,
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.
Hi Glen,
Awesome post and very thorough. Thanks for sharing it with us. Would love to get the 4th or secret part of the post. Would it be possible to send via email? Thanks.
Vinton Samms
Thanks for the post Glen,
Was hoping you could elaborate on whether these techniques would still be good for local SEO. Seems like a lot of these hit the organic algorithm, but are harder to apply to client work for service area businesses.
Grind on!
You may find ways this method could be useful for your clients, but don’t see it working too well for local SEO personally, no.
@Glen
Thank you for your post and work on both viperchill and now inc.
I will definitely put this into action here soon and email you back with results.
Quick question, will the viper chill “The Vault” member be rolled over to the inc?
Still need a while for everything to look nice on the ViperChill side, Jason π
Thank you Glen for such a amazing. I had bookmarked this blog a long time ago. You totally give an new idea by using common sense.. I’ll surely use your post step by step for my new blog for 2016 to start my blogging career.
My request is that post on regular basis but don’t take too much time π
Hey Glen,
Love this concept – wrote down a list of topics that I’m personally passionate and interested in. Then started KW research.
Question: How important is search volume?
Background: If there is a ton of long tail possibilities and several monetization strategies (Adsense for Viral type content a la BoredPanda, Amazon product commission, Affiliate CB type products.
Monetization is there. Search volume is not huge (maybe 10 top keywords with medium competition and volume of 2,500 or so).
Is this a bad niche because of the volume?
So glad I was “baited” (from the awesomeness of the post) to click on the content locker and actually share it (would have done it anyway :P). Pure gold inside…
I was having the exact same idea a couple of years ago to make a post about Top 5 Hosting Companies based on social media reviews with sentiment analysis and it seemed like a lot of work, which in fact is, but I haven’t thought of it in a way for an actual business model and build a website around it. Still, I’d imagine building such thing will require a lot of resources.
Well done Glen, always cool to read your stuff.
Thank you Glen for such a amazing. I had bookmarked this blog a long time ago.
Is novice like me can do it??????
Glen, it’s crazy how you analyze all of this information, I love it!
I too have the same mindset, “What holiday? Itβs time to grind!”
Thanks for the info. and Happy New Year!
Cheers RX,
Happy New Year!
Have not seen new post for a long time. Really liked the article, keep up the good work.
Happy new year!
Excellent article. The bit that really blew me away is the final content suggestion, since I am a programmer… Now just to figure out how to code it…
Makes sense – especially if done at the beginning of each calendar year – thanks for taking the time to prepare and share this Glen π
First time reading one of your articles and have to say I really like your approach (and writing style), but aside from that, I thought this was a very interesting read. I kinda wished the Hogwarts Scientology book was a real thing – hilarious. Anyways, enjoyed and I’ll be back. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Glen – it’s a lot easier for you to go for these cash yielding niches because of your vast pbn. The little guy doesn’t have the arsenal of seo weapons you do to rank for the gilt edge keywords. Still, nice post.

A long great article. I found it helpful, and thanks for sharing.
Some great ideas there. I only started using GTrends recently but have always been a huge KW research nut.
Kept seeing years pop up but stupidly never investigated it further. This has been a great read – and I don’t often get to the end of a long blog post.
RE: the APIs – wouldn’t simply using a site like socialmention.com do instead of complicating it?
Cheers,
Dave
Hi Glen – great great stuff!
What about the monetization?
How can you make money for books or products such as software, gadgets?
What if it’s not a list of products? e.g.,list of movies?
Many thanks in advance,
-Steve
Very thank you for great items that you put here on your blog, I’m reading this article and I’m delighted with so many information you pass. thank you friend.
I agree with this. I am working on my call and text promo blog and in some posts I tend to include a year in the focus keyword. All I can say is that this technique is timeless. Because no matter what year it is today, people will always be interested with the past, present, or future (like new movies to be produced, or new technologies to launch). Can be applied to a lot of niches, with countless possibilities. As what Paulo Coelho said, “You canβt measure time the way you measure the distance between two points.”
