Since I made the move to South Africa, life has certainly been a lot different for me. Getting to devise strategies for some of the worlds biggest companies into how they can go about getting Social Online is a pretty big responsibility at the age of 18 but definitely something I love.
The thing is, the real reason I’m here is to head up the Social Media team, so now comes the time when the training begins. With 2 months down and just less than 4 weeks before my flight back ‘home’ to England, I’m doing my first of many presentations to the gang here from the basics to advanced sectors of Social Media Marketing.
Here’s a look at some of the presentations I’m going to be doing:
- Building Social Media Profiles & Understanding Viral Content
- Reputation Management
- Writing Viral Copy (this one is for the copywriters)
- How to Create Social Media Proposals (we seem to get new business on a daily-basis)
Now for those who don’t know me, I’m not the most confident person in the world so while I’m sure ill be nervous (there’s only about 10 people watching) I think it’s going to do me the world of good and I will have gained a lot of confidence after doing so. You never know, it may even help me build up the confidence to apply to speak at a much bigger event.
I’m doing a test of the presentation today (Building Social Media Profiles & Understanding Viral Content) and doing the full thing on friday, here’s a look at what it will cover:
- What is Viral Content
- Examples of Social Media Success
- Sites to Register On (for our team of staff to get busy with)
- How to Use These Sites
- Reasons for Using Them
- How This Can Relate to Your Clients
I’m still debating my future over here in South Africa but it certainly won’t be the work that puts me off coming back; my life is in the UK afterall. I’m hoping I’ll have some new found confidence after all this and help BlueSouth have a stronger team that understands more about SMM than any other internet marketing company out there.
I’ll keep you all updated on how it goes!

That’s certainly exciting! I’ll be anticipating the part on writing social media proposals. I seem to do that on a daily basis, and could certainly gain from your expertise in it.
Keep in touch!

Good luck Glenn, I’ve had to give a few similar presentations recently, the key thing to remember is that your audience want you to succeed as much as you do!
If you get a chance try doing a dummy run of the presentation to some colleagues to help with timing etc, don’t rely too much on power point etc, your enthusiasm will be the best thing to make it an interesting presentation for the audience.
Good luck with the presentation Glen!
You are doing a great job!
I’ve found that I’m nervous most when I think I might know less about my topic than my audience does. Clearly not the case with you. You’ll do great… ~Jim
Hi Glen,
I found your blog and was quite impressed with you! I have been speaking publicly for years initially at 20 years old as a Non-Profit director and since on many many topics I speak on behalf of my company http://www.dbsinteractive.com-new site before 2008 so please don’t judge us by this one) The first few times are scary and quite frankly I have never lost all of my fear of speaking but there is also this fabulous energy that happens when I get to connect with an audience. Enough so that my goal is to retire and do nothing but public speaking. On a corporate level I have been doing presentations on RSS feeds. On a personal level I had a traumatic brain injury in 1998 and lost my ability to read and function in general so the fact that I have not only become functional but founded this amazing business has given me the opportunity to key note speak inspirationally which is extremely rewarding. My guess is because of your age and your accomplishments we may very well someday share a stage. Two months ago I spoke to 1700 people in Texas and it is the same amount of scary as 10
maybe even easier because I know at least one or two people are bound to be interested.
Long story short…… my hats off to you!
